Paradox:
Happiness Isn’t What We Think”

Connect:
Our world today offers a lot that promises to make us happy. What are some of the things we’re commonly told we need for happiness? How do those things ultimately let us down? What do you think leads to real happiness?

Engage:
Read Matthew 5:1-12 with your group.
• What stands out to you from this well-known passage?
• What did you think of the “unBeatitudes,” and how are Jesus’ better?
• Which one or ones of the Beatitudes do you find most challenging to practice in your walk with the Lord?
• How can you seek out lasting and settled happiness? In what ways do you need to ask Jesus to help you with that?

Apply:
Discuss practical ways you and your group can be poor in spirit, mourn your sin, be meek, hunger and thirst for Christ’s righteousness, be pure in heart, be peacemakers and rejoice in persecution for righteousness sake.
