Sermon: The Soul and Revival

Soul Part 5
The Soul and Revival – Psalm 19:7
Listen Here:

Very often we approach the Bible as a moral guide. We think of it as a way to help us through our problems, to act as our playbook or maybe even inspire us. Certainly, the Bible is capable of all of that but if we leave it there, we miss the point. In the Bible, we have everything God has intended to tell us about Himself and how we relate to Him. As a result, while the Bible is many things, it is first and foremost about Who God is and is therefore a treasure for our hearts. In Psalm 19, David writes that the law of the LORD (Scripture) revives our soul. In the drudgery and frustration brought on by this world, who among us doesn’t need their soul revived?

1.  Read Psalm 19:7

“The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making the wise simple…”

2.  Discussion Questions:

  1. How have you experienced your soul being revived by the Word of God?

  2. David rested in the perfection and sureness of God’s Word. How can you do this as well?

  3. How can you come to the Bible to see Who God is in ways that will revive your soul?

  4. What are the challenges you face that prevent you from reading the Bible in this way?

3. Challenge

In your Bible reading this week, approach the Word as refreshment for your soul and try to see something in the character of God you might have missed before. Ask the Lord to help with this and be open to how He has revealed Himself in the Bible.

4.  Commit to Memory:

“The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making the wise simple…”
