Sermon: The Soul and Waiting
Soul Part 6
The Soul and Waiting – Psalm 33:20
We hate waiting. Microwaves, on demand TV, Amazon, overnight delivery, etc. have made us expect everything we want, right now. But instant gratification ultimately produces nothing but more want. God, on the other hand, asks us to wait on Him while He builds something of worth, something that only He can do. He wants to sanctify us over a period of time and for us to trust Him alone as our help and shield. Of course, waiting can be hard, but the things God gives when we wait on Him are most definitely worth it.
1. Read Psalm 33:20
“Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.”
2. Discussion Questions:
What about waiting do you find most challenging?
What does it mean that the LORD is “our help and our shield?
How does knowing the Lord is with us help us in our waiting?
What are you waiting for that seems to burden your soul the most?
It’s hard to wait. This week, spend time alone with the Lord. Surrender your most longed for desire, that thing you believe that if you could obtain and everything would be better, to Him. Rest in the promise that He is your help and shield and that He will calm your soul.
4. Commit to Memory:
“Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.”
