Group Benchmarks

Group Benchmarks:

Make Friends, Make Disciples, Make a Difference

Make Friends

Groups begin with an emphasis on Gospel Enjoyment, which produces love for God and people. A group should MAKE FRIENDS with one another by knowing and loving the people in the group. Here are some benchmarks to strive for in making friends:

• Establish a consistent meeting rhythm around the Sermon Based Group Guide.
• Ask everyone to share their story with the group.
• Once a month, do something social with each other apart from group time.

End Result: A group where solid relationships/friendships exist.
Transition to Make Disciples: Group members watch online curriculum and group leaders complete online training curriculum.

Make Disciples

Healthy groups begin to hunger for depth, both with God and one another. Groups should seek Intentional Community by MAKING DISCIPLES who gravitate towards the Word. Group members should also consider if the Lord is calling them to join FC as a Covenant Member. Here are some benchmarks to strive for in making disciples:

Group Leaders:
• Complete all group leader training videos. These will be posted online.
• Identify an apprentice (a person who could/should be a group leader) within the group.
• Give the apprentice multiple opportunities to lead periodically and meet with them frequently.

Group Members:
• Actively participate as a group member by attending meetings and joining in the conversation.
• Read the Bible regularly on your own and seek to obey God’s Word.
• Regularly pray with/for the members of your group as well as confess and repent of sins together.
• Consider membership at FC by watching online group resources.
• Become a Covenant Member of FC.

End Result: A group made up of people actively pursuing being a disciple of Christ.
Transition to Make a Difference: Begin to consider how to make a difference in the church and in the community.

Make a Difference

Groups of growing disciples should emphasize Prayerful Mission as they seek to MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the church and community. They seek to make disciples of others and multiply their group for the sake of God’s mission. Here are some benchmarks to strive for in making a difference:

• Identify a place to serve together. This could be in the church on Sundays, in the community or with one of FC’s mission partners.
• Regularly pray for opportunities to share the Gospel with the lost.
• Know the names of unbelievers and build relationships with them.
• Read the Bible with people inside and outside the group.
• As a group, attend the Mission Training on multiplication.
• Share and record stories of people on mission in the group.

End Result: A group of disciple-makers.
Transition to Make Friends: Group multiplies and begins to Make Friends, Make Disciples and Make a Difference.
